If you are in need of more urgent or specific support here is a list of local and national support organisations.

Calder Community Cares was established, initially through Hebden Bridge Old People’s Welfare Committee, as a direct result of the 2020 Covid Pandemic. We saw an urgent need to support people in our community who were self-isolating, and we set up links with a quickly growing group of volunteers who were willing to help.

Our commitment is now to provide an ongoing service for those in our valley, Covid related or not. We are a volunteer organisation based in the Upper Calder Valley and we cover the area of Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd and Todmorden. On this site you can make requests for help, or you can offer your time and expertise to help others in our community. We can then link those who would benefit greatly from a little extra support, with those who would be willing to provide it.

As a Community Friend we will listen carefully to you, look at your circumstances and match you up with one or more of our services. When you register with us, we will support and work with you for as long as you feel you need it and rest assured, we will keep your details safe and confidential.

As a Volunteer, you can feel good knowing you are making the lives of those who live in our community a little easier. You can offer as little or as much time as you wish, on an ad hoc basis or as a regular contribution at a time to suit you. Many of our volunteers comment that they have enjoyed meeting new people in this way and feel more grounded in their own community. You will be fully insured for any task you take on for us, you’ll be given guidance and training for any roles you undertake, and we can arrange a DBS check if it is required.

Get involved

Getting involved is easy, just fill in the simple form using the link below. In a few days we will contact you to discuss what will work for you and to agree a plan together.

Becoming a Community Friend will give you additional support, make you feel valued, appreciated and part of a bigger community that really cares.

Signing up as a volunteer is very rewarding and will give you the chance to contribute to our community in your own way.

PS you can do both! Some of our Community Friends also volunteer, there are many opportunities that will open up for you.
