Calder Cares 4 Ukraine

Calder Cares 4 Ukraine is our response to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which has caused families to be uprooted from their homes and forced to move across Europe. In Calderdale we have welcomed refugees from Ukraine, and at Calder Community Cares we have worked to see how we can provide support wherever it is needed.

Since then we have had a wonderful response from our community and have been extremely proud of all the help that has been offered. Here is a selection of what we have been able to provide to help Ukrainian families in the Calder Valley.

What we provide

  • A website for people who would like to host Ukrainians through the Homes For Ukraine sponsor scheme to connect with each other and with Ukrainians coming to the Calder Valley.
  • An active Telegram channel for local Ukrainian speakers to connect and communicate.
  • Meet and greets with food, drink and music for Ukrainian and local families to spend time with each other and have some fun!
  • A cooking club allowing Ukrainian members of our community to share their love of their traditional food.
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses in partnership with Tod College.
  • Help towards providing course books for Ukrainian students.
  • Social and educational trips for Ukrainian students, to learn more about Calderdale while practising English.
