It’s a wrap – Christmas kindness all wrapped up
It’s not going to be a great Christmas for some of the people in our valley this year. A combination of loneliness and isolation for some of our vulnerable and isolated adults means they are less likely to go out and mix with others or have family or friends calling in on them over the darker days and months to come.
Similarly, some of our families, who thought that at least this Christmas would be a little better than last, will be facing a reduction in UC, higher fuel bills and possibly shorter working hours- so making ends meet for those additional extra costs associated with the festive season will be a real strain on budgets, and many of our families are facing food and income poverty for the first time ever and really don’t want to ask for help.
And not all children will be spending Christmas at home surrounded by family and rushing downstairs to see what Santa is bringing this year, so we have set ourselves a really ambitious challenge and really need your help to us to achieve it.
What we want to do
Our aim is to collect and distribute well over small 400 gift bags for our Elders, and over 150 large gift boxes for Families and probably around 150 individual gifts for children this year. You can support us by making a donation on this page or dropping an unwrapped gift at our many drop off points in Mytholmroyd, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.
At CCC we pride ourselves in providing discreet, respectful support to those we serve, and we need your help to continue with that service.
Ideally, we would like to collect together a small gift and some little extras for our Calder Older Generations and would love it if you would like to buy an extra gift this Christmas and bring it to us unwrapped so we can deliver it week commencing 15th December to our community.
We’d also love to add a handcrafted gift to each of our bags if it was at all possible too – I think it says so much to receive something that someone has made with love and care.
And ideally shop local is the way to go!
What you can do to help
Sponsor a family, child or elderly resident by donating below. We will buy the items for you – preferably by shopping local – then wrap and deliver the gift on your behalf.
Buy your own gift. You can buy your gift and bring it to us UNWRAPPED – so we can wrap it and add it to the child, family or older person’s gift.
Knit, craft or sew. Handmade gifts are without doubt the best way to make a person feel valued and appreciated, so we would love to include knitted hats, gloves or scarves, (all age and gender- including adults) handmade Christmas tree decorations or table centre pieces for our community friends- so we encourage you to get those needles out and start crafting!
Volunteer. We need elves, fairies, wrappers and Santas to help deliver all this lot ready for lights out on Christmas Eve!
