Kids Matter ran an amazing parenting course for Calder Community Cares, and we’re happy to announce another course will be running in October.

We’ve been lucky enough to have the wonderful people from Kids Matter helping us out in Hebden Bridge for the past six weeks. Julie and Joyce from the charity have been running the parenting course for us, and at Calder Community Cares we want to support the programme and make sure as many families as possible have been able to benefit from it.

Kids Matter ran their parenting course for us at Calder Community Cares out of Hebden Bridge Methodist Church, and we all had a fantastic time. Both of our teams really enjoyed working together, and we learned so much from each other. The feedback afterwards was incredibly positive, and we’re excited to announce the programme will be running again in October.

The course covered a wide range of topics all about the different aspects of parenting. We covered behavioural responses, family support structures, individual needs, love, play, consequences and expectations. All of this came from a shared understanding, as we explored solutions and approaches together based on everyone’s experience.

Who are Kids Matter?

Kids Matter has been helping families since 2017, reaching over 2,380 children in that time. The parenting course has been wildly successful, with 92 per cent of parents saying the programme has helped them and 67 per cent saying they were playing with their children more as a result.

“The feedback from the group was so very positive,” said Jan Lymer, Calder Community Cares’ founder. “And I have to say, the wonderful cakes were delicious! Sometimes that shared time around a brew and something good to eat makes all the difference. The attendees, the teams from Kids Matter and Calder Community Cares all thoroughly enjoyed working together.
