Eat Together, Stay Home

Eat Together, Stay Home

The aim of this project is to provide a sense of community through the sharing of virtual food events on a regular basis.

Local, independent cafes and pubs work with us to provide meals that can easily be delivered by our volunteers at a prearranged time. We choose the sort of meals that our Community Friends are unlikely to be cooking for themselves (roast dinners, afternoon teas, pizzas…..) and we limit the number of options but make individual arrangements for those with dietary requirements. By arranging “dinner parties” where many Community Friends are receiving the same meal at the same time, we hope that people feel that they are dining with friends.

The meal providers and the volunteers give their time for free. The meal ingredients have been funded from a grant from CffC, but many meal providers are also generous in their donations of some of the food ingredients.

In the first phase of this project, between 27th April and 15th July 2020, we made 604 deliveries of a total of 806 meals to self-isolators in the Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd and Luddenden areas. We are currently planning our second phase and will launch it during the autumn.

If you would like to join in this project when it restarts, please register as a Community Friend and someone will give you a ring.
